Job summary

Illumina seeks a Field Service Engineer 2 to support customers in the Kansas City Metro area or Central Iowa. You will install, upgrade, repair and maintain genomic instrument systems, working closely with customers, sales and service teams to maximize uptime and satisfaction.

Responsibilities include on-site technical support, troubleshooting, coordinating service requests, managing parts inventory, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years relevant Field Service experience.
• BS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Ability to operate as an independent contributor and as part of a team.
• Proven problem solving ability.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills.
• Experience with optical alignments, robotics, electrical/electronics, and mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with genomics, sequencing applications, and bioinformatics.
• Basic knowledge of general lab practices and safety.

Responsibilities

• Interface between field organization and internal support to provide onsite technical assistance.
• Install, upgrade, repair, and maintain instrument systems in defined territory.
• Utilize and maintain up-to-date service manuals, SOPs, and facilitate remote connectivity to customer instrumentation.
• Provide technical support to customers, junior engineers, colleagues and contractors.
• Coordinate service requests to establish best intervention method and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Manage inventory levels and service parts to promote first-time fixes.
• Collaborate with sales/marketing to coordinate new system placements and renewals.
• Build and maintain relationships with customers to ensure success with Illumina products and services.
