Job summary

Meijer Inc. is seeking an Area Leader to drive team member engagement and leadership within a defined span of care. You will coach, recognize, and provide feedback while managing performance, training, and succession planning.

You will direct Leads and Team Leaders and be accountable for store operations and financial results. You will identify talent, develop staffing plans, and ensure adherence to Meijer standards and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 4+ years of retail/grocery or customer service experience.
• Progressive leadership experience preferred.
• A passion to provide industry leading service.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with team members in a way that provides clear and precise direction.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use that information to make informed decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
• Demonstrates proactive/creative thinking and applies it to the business.
• A thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising which leads to meeting the needs of our customers/community and gaining sales and market share.
• A strong business acumen.

Responsibilities

• Engages with team members in span of care to ensure onboarding, training and development, and coaching and feedback to be successful.
• Identifies talent and engages in career discussions to support store staffing and leadership roles.
• Involvement in candid discussions with team members to ensure Meijer standards are upheld and opportunities for growth are available.
• Accountability for area operations and financial results by overseeing execution of corporate plans to maximize sales and productivity and managing budget line items in the P&L.
• Drives safety and compliance, manages store condition, and follows all store procedures.
• Ensures Team Leaders and Leads provide guidance and assign daily work and training needs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
