Job summary

Markent Personnel, Inc. is seeking a General Manager to lead our HVAC and plumbing division in California. You will own the division's operations and P&L, guiding field teams, dispatch, and budget decisions to drive profitability and growth.

The role demands strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to optimize workflows while maintaining safety and quality across projects. A relevant degree or equivalent experience is required, with a preference for trade certifications.

Qualifications

• Three to five years of project management in construction; or bachelor’s degree in construction science or related fields; or an equivalent certification combined with experience, and education preferred.
• Extensive knowledge and work experience in HVAC and general construction.
• California Driver License, with clean DMV record
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong organizational and administrative skills
• Strong typing skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Uses independent judgment and discretion in prioritizing and managing situations
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, overtime and weekends as required
• Familiarity with job costing, scheduling, and estimating software
• A Journeyman/Master Plumber license is a major plus, but business background is valued

Responsibilities

• P&L ownership: Manage the division's budget, track labor and material costs, and implement strategic pricing models to hit gross profit margins.
• Team leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor licensed plumbers, apprentices, and office staff; foster accountability and safety.
• Operational excellence: Oversee daily dispatching, scheduling, and job workflows to maximize efficiency.
• Business growth: Develop and execute sales strategies to expand maintenance contracts and market share.
• Customer relations: Escalation point for inquiries and disputes to protect brand reputation.
