Job summary

Markel in the United States is seeking a seasoned Claims Examiners team leader to manage a busy general liability claims unit and align with Senior Director objectives. This role reports to the Senior Director of General Liability claims and requires strong leadership, policy review, and performance management.

The position emphasizes directing assignments, reserving, budgets, and reporting while fostering collaboration with Underwriting and Actuarial teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus.
• Claims adjuster license required or eligible.
• Minimum of 10 years of claims handling/management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents.
• Direct and monitor assignments of new loss activity for claims.
• Review and approve reserves and settlements in excess of the authority of the handling examiner.
• Make recommendations concerning reserve changes to Senior Director or Senior Management.
• Prepare and distribute reports by collecting and summarizing information.
• Travel to other claim offices, mediations, trials, and conferences as required.
