Job summary

NiSource Inc. is seeking an entry-level Operations Field/Service Technician to support residential and commercial gas service needs.

The role offers progression to Field/Service Technician 2 after two years with required training and Operator Qualifications (OQs). You will install, test, and maintain gas meters and service lines; operate light earth-moving equipment; and respond to emergencies while adhering to safety and OSHA standards.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools.
• Ability to perform basic math and read/write clearly.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment Attitude Assessment, Aptitude Testing, Physical Capability Assessment, Drug Screen, MVR screen and Background report.
• Must be able to pass applicable service physical capability assessments.

Responsibilities

• Installation, repair and replacement of distribution facilities.
• Operate light earth-moving equipment and maintain it.
• Install and remove gas meters, settings, and regulators; inspect service lines for leaks.
• Turn gas on/off for customers and advise on installations.
• Collect delinquent bills; read meters; locate and repair curb boxes.
• Respond to emergencies and work overtime as needed.
