Job summary

NiSource is hiring an entry-level Operations Field/Service Technician in Ohio to install, repair, and maintain gas distribution facilities. You will operate light earth-moving equipment, install meters and regulators, and test lines for leaks to ensure safe service for homes and businesses.

The role requires mechanical aptitude, basic math, and the ability to work in a team, with some overtime and on-call duties. Training and safety compliance are essential as part of daily operations.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must have mechanical aptitude and be able to use hand tools for repair of field facilities.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations and understand written and oral communications.
• Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
• Must be detail-oriented and able to follow through with little supervision.
• Requires skill in reading/interpreting gauges/dials.
• Must be able to be certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
• Subject to DOT Anti-Drug and Alcohol Misuse Prevention Plan regulations.
• Must be able to respond to emergency calls and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair and replace distribution facilities and operate maintenance of construction equipment.
• Operate light earth-moving equipment and transport equipment/materials.
• Install/remove gas meters, regulator settings; inspect and test service/house lines for leaks.
• Use test instruments to install, service, and adjust gas appliances.
• Investigate gas service issues such as leaks, odor or no gas; advise customers and contractors.
• Turn gas on/off for customers and collect delinquent bills; read meters; locate and repair curb boxes.
• Test for leaks using gauges and gas-detection instruments.
