Job summary

NiSource is seeking an entry level Operations Field/Service Technician in the Springfield area. The role includes a clear path to Field/Service Technician 2 after two years with required training and Operator Qualifications (OQs).

You will install, repair and maintain gas facilities, operate small equipment, and test lines for leaks while serving residential and commercial customers. Candidates must meet DOT/AMPP requirements and be able to work overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools for field facilities repair.
• Ability to perform basic math, keep legible records and communicate effectively.
• Ability to work well in a team and follow instructions with little supervision.
• Detail-oriented and capable of completing tasks accurately.
• Must read/interprete gauges and dials; certified to wear SCBA.
• Must pass DOT AMPP regulations and pre-employment assessments.
• Must be able to respond to emergencies and overtime as needed.
• Must pass MVR and background checks; comply with living requirements.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair and replace distribution facilities and maintain equipment.
• Operate light earth-moving equipment and transport materials as needed.
• Install meters, settings and regulators; test for leaks.
• Inspect service lines, use gauges and instruments to locate leaks.
• Advise customers and contractors on service lines and installations.
• Turn gas on/off for customers and handle emergency calls.
