Job summary

NiSource Inc. is seeking an entry level Operations Field/Service Technician in Ohio. This role progresses to Technician 2 after two years with required training and Operator Qualifications (OQs).

You will install, repair and replace distribution facilities, operate light earth-moving equipment, and assist customers with gas service needs while following safety protocols and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools for repair of field facilities.
• Basic math and ability to prepare legible records.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Detail-oriented with ability to follow through with little supervision.
• Read/interpreting gauges & dials.
• Must be able to be certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
• Able to pass DOT AMPP regulations.
• Pass pre-employment assessments: Attitude, Aptitude, Physical Capability, Drug Screen, MVR, Background.
• Must abide by area living requirements.
• Able to pass service physical capability assessments.
• Work in all weather conditions; OSHA pipeline safety knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair and replace distribution facilities (main lines/services) and operate maintenance equipment.
• Serve residential and commercial customers' needs.
• Operate light earth-moving equipment (backhoe, side boom, tamper, hydra-crane) and maintain it.
• Install and remove gas meters, settings, and regulators; test service lines for leaks.
• Use test instruments to install, service, and adjust gas appliances.
• Investigate gas service inquiries (no gas, leaks, odor, fires, high bills).
• Advise plumbers/contractors on installations; turn gas on/off for customers.
• Read meters, collect delinquent bills, locate/repair curb boxes.
