NiSource Inc. is seeking an entry-level Field & Service Technician to support safe and reliable natural gas delivery for residential and commercial customers.

You may perform field construction and maintenance or customer service tasks based on daily needs, with hands-on training and clear progression opportunities. Role emphasizes hands-on skill development, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to operate equipment and respond to emergencies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and safely.
• Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
• Ability to obtain or maintain required company certifications and Operator Qualifications (OQs).
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to respond to emergency calls and work scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
• Ability to pass pre-employment assessments, physical capability testing, drug screening, motor vehicle record review, and background screening.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and replace natural gas distribution facilities, including mains and services.
• Operate and maintain construction equipment such as backhoes, side booms, tampers, and cranes.
• Transport equipment and materials to job sites.
• Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Support construction, maintenance, and emergency response activities.
• Install and remove gas meters, regulators, and meter settings.
• Investigate gas service issues, leaks, odors, outages, and other customer concerns.
• Turn gas service on and off for customers.
• Test service and house lines for leaks using specialized equipment.
• Service and adjust gas appliances.
• Provide guidance to customers, contractors, and plumbers regarding gas service installations.
