NiSource, based in Ohio, is hiring for an entry-level Operations Field/Service Technician position in Cambridge. The role includes a clear progression path to Field/Service Technician 2 after two years, contingent on successful training and Operator Qualifications (OQs).

Responsibilities include installing, repairing, and maintaining gas distribution facilities, operating light earth-moving equipment, and testing gas systems.

Qualifications

• Requires High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must have mechanical aptitude and be able to use hand tools for repair of field facilities.
• Ability to perform basic math, keep legible records, and understand written/spoken communications.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Detail-oriented and able to follow assignments with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to read/interpreting gauges & dials.
• Must be certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
• Subject to DOT AMPP regulations.
• Must be able to respond to emergency calls and work overtime.
• Pass pre-employment assessments and background checks.
• Must abide by area living requirements.
• Pass service physical capability assessments.
• Work in all weather conditions.
• Knowledge OSHA regulations on pipeline safety.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair and replace distribution facilities such as main lines and services; maintain equipment.
• Serve the needs of residential and commercial customers.
• Operate light earth-moving equipment (backhoe, side boom, tamper, hydra-crane).
• Maintain equipment (cleaning, greasing, lubricating) and transport equipment/materials.
• Install/remove gas meters, meter settings, regulators; test service/house lines for leaks.
• Use test instruments to install, service, and adjust gas appliances.
• Investigate gas service inquiries (no gas, leaks, odor, blowing gas, fires, explosions, high bills).
• Advise plumbers, contractors, and customers on service/house line installations.
• Turn gas on/off for customers.
• Collect delinquent bills; read meters; locate/repair curb boxes.
• Use pressure gauges and detectors to test leaks.
