Job summary

UrgentVet is seeking a Full-Time Shift Lead at our Hoover, AL clinic to provide outstanding patient care, team leadership, and client service in a fast-paced urgent care setting.

The Shift Lead will perform duties of Senior Veterinary Assistant or Vet Technician, coordinate paraprofessional staff, and partner with the Practice Manager to ensure effective communication, productivity, and quality care for patients while maintaining a positive team environment.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in healthcare, veterinary profession, or service-type industry.
• Medical background with medical terminology training.
• Associate degree or veterinary technician certification/licensure preferred.
• Six months of prior experience in a management position strongly preferred.
• Animal handling experience including patient restraint, sample collection, and monitoring.
• Clinical skills including phlebotomy, catheter placement, laboratory analysis, and drug calculation.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership across shifts to support clients, team members, and hospital goals.
• Coordinate paraprofessional staff and assign cases with clear responsibilities.
• Communicate effectively with clients, hospital staff, and leadership teams.
• Assist with client resolution decisions and manage invoices or experience exceptions.
• Train and mentor new paraprofessional staff.
• Address equipment issues and assist in inventory management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
