Job summary

UrgentVet Hospitals in Short Pump, VA is seeking a Full-Time Shift Lead to supervise a fast-paced urgent care team and ensure exceptional patient care. You will partner with the Practice Manager and Lead DVM to coordinate staff, maintain efficient operations, and support client satisfaction.

The ideal candidate brings veterinary/healthcare experience, strong leadership, and the ability to manage flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in healthcare, veterinary profession, or service-type industry required.
• Medical background with medical terminology training required.
• Associate degree or veterinary technician certification/licensure preferred.
• Six months of prior experience in a management position strongly preferred.
• Animal handling experience including patient restraint, sample collection, and monitoring.
• Clinical skills including phlebotomy, catheter placement, laboratory analysis, and drug calculation.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership during each shift to support clients, coordinate paraprofessional staff, and help achieve hospital goals.
• Direct, plan, coordinate, and perform duties related to animal health and client education to ensure high-quality care.
• Communicate effectively with clients, hospital staff, Field Leadership, and Support Center departments.
• Assign cases to veterinary assistants and ensure clear responsibilities while addressing bottlenecks in medical operations.
• Assist with client resolution decisions, invoice adjustments, and client experience exceptions.
• Train and mentor new paraprofessional staff.
• Support inventory management and address equipment issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
