Job summary

Save the Children is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support preschool instruction in a Head Start setting in North Carolina. The role involves assisting the Teacher in day-to-day operations, promoting social-emotional, physical and cognitive development, and fostering strong family partnerships to align with Head Start performance standards.

Responsibilities include supervising children, facilitating activities, maintaining a safe classroom, and documenting observations.

Qualifications

• Must have CDA credential or be enrolled in a CDA program to complete within two years of hire.
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Head Start/Early Head Start program purpose.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; ability to follow directions and take initiative.
• Ability to collaborate with staff, families and community partners while maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Engage with children during activities and supervise all learning activities.
• Assist planning and conducting activities with Head Start Teacher.
• Guide classroom projects and field trips with Head Start Teacher.
• Maintain developmentally appropriate classroom management.
• Provide a safe, developmentally appropriate learning environment for individuals and groups.
• Build relationships with children, families and colleagues.
• Ensure safety using active supervision and compliance with Head Start standards.
• Support Head Start compliance and documentation with teachers and families.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings and family conferences.
• Assist with health, nutrition, and daily routines; support behavior and self-help skills.
