Job summary

Save the Children is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support preschool instruction within a Head Start classroom in North Carolina. You will assist the Teacher, supervise children, and help create a safe, developmentally appropriate learning environment.

You will work closely with families, participate in conferences, and help implement activities aligned with Head Start standards while maintaining high-quality service and compliance.

Qualifications

• CDA credential or enrolled to complete within two years of hire.
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Head Start/Early Head Start program.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to collaborate with families, coworkers and community partners.
• Confidential handling of family information.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and online client management systems.
• Participation in required first aid and pediatric CPR training.

Responsibilities

• Support instruction of preschool-aged children to promote social-emotional, physical and cognitive growth.
• Assist Head Start Teacher in day-to-day classroom operations and scheduling.
• Engage children in activities, supervise indoors and outdoors for safety.
• Assist in preparing and conducting activities aligned with Head Start standards.
• Maintain classroom management with developmentally appropriate techniques.
• Build partnerships with families and participate in conferences.
• Record observations, assessments and screenings as appropriate.
• Attend staff meetings, committees and training sessions.
