Job summary

Save the Children is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support preschool instruction in a Head Start setting, promoting social-emotional, physical, and cognitive development. You will assist the Teacher in daily classroom operations and help build strong partnerships with families while upholding Head Start standards.

You will work under supervision to ensure safety, quality instruction, and adherence to program guidelines, with opportunities for professional growth and collaboration with staff

Qualifications

• CDA or state credential meeting CDA requirements, or enrolled in a CDA program within two years of hire.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Knowledge of Head Start/Early Head Start program purpose.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to collaborate with staff, families, and community partners.
• Confidential handling of family information.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and online client management systems.
• Professional development including basic first aid and pediatric CPR.

Responsibilities

• Engage with children during activities and supervise learning environment.
• Assist in planning and conducting activities with Head Start Teacher to meet individual needs.
• Guide class projects and field trips.
• Maintain developmentally appropriate classroom management.
• Provide safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment with individual and small group interactions.
• Build relationships with families and staff.
• Ensure child safety with active supervision.
• Collaborate with supervisor to align with Head Start standards.
• Participate in parent-teacher conferences.
• Assist with mealtime and social/self-help skills.
• Assist with health and personal habits.
• Support record keeping, observations, and screenings.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Document in-kind activities.
• Stay flexible to cover after-hours as needed.
• Lead when teacher is absent.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
