Job summary

Centerboard in Lynn, TX is seeking Direct Care Staff to provide on-site assistance to residents in the Emergency Assistance Housing Program and to support safe, orderly shelter environments.

The role covers shifts, daily shelter operations, responding to family concerns, and following program safety procedures. A high school diploma/GED is required, with two years’ housing services experience and strong communication and documentation skills preferred.

Qualifications

• This position requires a high school diploma/GED or some college preferred.
• Two years’ experience working in housing services, residential programs or public contact.
• Must be able to write and document all transactions required of the program and its participants.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness of common areas.
• Remain awake, alert, and available to respond throughout the shift.
• Complete hourly indoor and outdoor rounds during each shift.
• Document shift information in the Communication Log in MY EVOLV.
• Complete shift information and any incident reports for each shift.
• Report any maintenance requests and contact emergency maintenance as required.
• Receive new families arriving for shelter placement as needed.
• Ensure families keep common areas and hallways free from all personal belongings.
• Maintain keys for units in the locked key box.
• Monitor entry and exit points; ensure sign-in/out procedures and safety protocols are followed.
• De-escalate minor conflicts or disagreements between shelter families and report significant incidents to the supervisor on duty or on call.
• Monitor the security system and report any issues or specific concerns.
• Communicate relevant program and shift information through email, phone and written means of communication.
• Clean units once families exit the shelter.
• Assess any maintenance issues reported by families after hours by entering the affected units and thereafter contact the landlord or Centerboard’s maintenance crew.
