Job summary

Centerboard is seeking a Direct Care Staff member to provide on-site assistance to residents in the Emergency Assistance Housing Program in Salem, MA. The role supports daily shelter operations and ensures safety and order across assigned shifts.

Responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness, monitoring rounds, documenting information, and coordinating with maintenance and supervisors. A high school diploma or GED is required, with two years in housing services preferred; Microsoft

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; two years’ experience in housing services, residential programs, or public contact preferred.
• Must possess strong communication, problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record preferred; able to relate to people and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of common areas.
• Remain awake, alert, and available to respond during shifts.
• Complete hourly indoor and outdoor rounds.
• Document shift information in the log and incident reports.
• Report maintenance requests and contact maintenance as required.
• Assist new families arriving for shelter placement as needed.
• Ensure clean and organized units and common areas.
• Monitor entry/exit points and ensure sign-in/out procedures are followed.
• De-escalate conflicts and report incidents to a supervisor.
