Job summary

St. Bernard Nursing & Rehabilitation, part of the Volare Health family, is seeking a dependable Full-Time Cook in New Orleans, LA. Under the dietary services team, you will prepare nutritious meals per menus and resident needs, ensuring safety and sanitation.

You should have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid Food Handler's Permit or ServSafe certification. Prior cooking experience and long-term care dietary background are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred by policy.
• Valid Food Handler's Permit or ServSafe certification required by state regulations.
• Previous cooking experience preferred; restaurant or institutional food service a plus.
• Skilled nursing or long-term care dietary experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals according to planned menus, recipes, dietary requirements, portions, and temperature standards.
• Ensure meals meet residents' dietary needs and preferences.
• Maintain clean and sanitary kitchen areas, equipment, floors, dishes, and utensils.
• Follow storage, sanitation, infection control, and safety procedures.
• Monitor inventory, assist with deliveries, and ensure ingredients are available for upcoming meals.
• Identify and report equipment issues, unsafe conditions, accidents, or concerns promptly.
• Collaborate with dietary team and facility staff to support quality resident care and dining experiences.

St. Bernard Nursing & Rehabilitation, part of the Volare Health family of skilled nursing and short-term rehabilitation centers, is looking for a dependable and passionate Full-Time Cook to join our dietary team in New Orleans, LA!

We believe that great food brings comfort, joy, and connection. As a Cook, you'll play an important role in our residents' daily lives by preparing nutritious, delicious meals that meet their individual dietary needs and preferences.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Dietary Services Manager, the Cook prepares meals according to planned menus, prescribed resident diets, established recipes, and portion guidelines while maintaining proper food temperatures and following all applicable sanitation and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals according to planned menus, recipes, resident dietary requirements, portion guidelines, and food temperature standards.
• Ensure meals are prepared accurately and accommodate residents' dietary needs and preferences.
• Maintain clean and sanitary kitchen areas, equipment, floors, dishes, and utensils.
• Follow proper food storage, sanitation, infection control, and workplace safety procedures.
• Monitor food and supply inventory, assist with receiving and storing deliveries, and ensure ingredients are available for upcoming meals.
• Identify and report equipment issues, unsafe conditions, accidents, or other concerns promptly.
• Work collaboratively with the dietary team and other facility staff to support quality resident care and dining experiences.

• Valid Food Handler's Permit or ServSafe certification, as required by state regulations.
• Previous cooking experience preferred; restaurant or institutional food service experience is a plus.

• Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Positive attitude and the ability to work cooperatively with residents, families, and fellow team members.
• Ability to work in a kitchen environment with varying temperatures, including near ovens and stoves and in walk-in refrigerators or freezers.
