Job summary

Old World Industries is seeking a detail-oriented freight audit specialist to collaborate with Sales, AP, Customer Service, and Transportation to ensure accurate freight billing and timely carrier payments. The role involves collecting data to develop KPIs and working with Transportation Managers on corrective action plans.

You will audit freight bills, resolve variances, update surcharges in AS/400, and provide rate quotes. Strong Excel, AS/400, and SAP skills are required.

Qualifications

  • High School education, GED or equivalent experience in transportation
  • 3+ years’ experience classifying commodities and developing freight rate computations for LTL and truckload shipments
  • Good proactive interpersonal, written, verbal communication and team skills
  • Strong computer skills in Excel, AS/400, SAP and personal computer platform
  • Spreadsheet, math, and word-processing skills required
  • Must be detail orientated and exhibit proactive problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Audit freight bills
  • Resolve variances prior to carrier billing terms
  • Monitor and process freight payments through US bank/Power Track
  • Research reasons for cost variances on invoicing versus stated charges on AS400
  • Update fuel surcharge in AS400
  • Freight rate data entry
  • Manually input freight rating sales orders that don’t automatically rate
  • Review carrier-aging reports
  • Provide transportation manager with detailed information for corrective action
  • Provide load and LTL rate quotes
  • Resolve SAP case disputes
  • Ensure that orders have been fulfilled before invoicing
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Job description

Position Purpose

The individual will be responsible with working with several internal and external departments, (Sales, Accounts Payable, Customer Service, Transportation Planners, Finance and Carrier Representatives) in order to determine freight bill accuracy, resolve any discrepancies and ensure that our carriers are paid in a timely basis. The individual will participate in the data collection to develop the departmental metrics and KPIs. The incumbent will interface with the Transportation Managers on action plan to reduce freight bill audits and discrepancies.

Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities
  • Audit freight bills
  • Resolve variances prior to carrier billing terms
  • Monitor and process freight payments through US bank/Power Track
  • Research reasons for cost variances on invoicing versus stated charges on AS400
  • Update fuel surcharge in AS400
  • Freight rate data entry
  • Manually input freight rating sales orders that don’t automatically rate
  • Review carrier-aging reports
  • Update orders with carrier information
  • Provide customer shipping reports for select customers
  • Freight Claims – filing, processing & follow-up
  • Develop freight rating purchase orders
  • Complete Short Pay forms, where applicable, to be included with payment to carrier stating the reasons for the altered charges
  • Maintain invoicing integrity through audit and collaborate with contract carriers to improve and streamline all invoicing activities
  • Provide transportation manager with detailed information for corrective action and follow-up with the carrier representative
  • Provide Excel report showing freight bill audit reductions
  • Provide load and LTL rate quotes
  • Resolve SAP case disputes
  • Ensure that orders have been fulfilled before invoicing
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
