Job summary

NFI is seeking a Freight Bill Clerk to support a Transportation Management client by accurately processing freight invoices and shipping documentation. The role ensures billing accuracy, cost control, and healthy carrier and client relationships.

Responsibilities include auditing freight bills, verifying charges against contracts, and maintaining billing records. Strong MS Excel skills and 4+ years in billing are essential.

Overview

The Freight Bill Clerk supports a dedicated Transportation Management client with the accurate and timely processing of freight invoices and shipping documentation. This position plays a critical role in ensuring billing accuracy, cost control, and maintaining positive carrier and client relationships. This position reports to the Senior Account Manager.

Responsibilities

• Audit, process, and reconcile freight bills, invoices, and related documents
• Verify carrier charges against contracts, rate agreements, and shipping documentation
• Resolve discrepancies with carriers, clients, or internal departments as needed
• Maintain accurate billing records in internal systems and ensure timely data entry
• Communicate with high volume carriers and vendors regarding payment statuses or billing issues
• Assist with month-end reporting and provide carrier aging report status updates
• Collaborate with the account management and carrier accounting teams to ensure the carrier partners are paid timely and streamline the client’s cash flow

Qualifications

• Associates Degree Required
• 4+ years’ experience in billing / accounting environment
• 1-2 years of transportation/clerical experience – LTL Bill of Ladings, freight invoices, and accessorial fee experience
• Excellent in Microsoft Applications – Word, Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot tables)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Work as a team player, yet able to work independently
• Must have billing system experience
• Able to communicate professionally & promptly with management, coworkers, and customers
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills
• Must have leadership and organizational skills
• Must have excellent MS Office Suite skills, Excel and Access a must

We are excited to share the base hourly rate for this position is $19.19/hour - $25.59/hour. NFI takes into consideration applicants' qualifications, experience, education, geographic location, when determining a starting rate of pay. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, targeted at 3%.
