Job summary

Workstream is hiring a Staff Engineer to lead AI-Native Services from zero to one. As the first engineer on the AINS team, you will shape architecture, set engineering bar, and build a team that scales bespoke work into reusable agents and playbooks.

You'll own components, ensure deterministic behavior, and collaborate with customers to map real workflows to live data. This role offers impact, leadership exposure, and equity in a fast-growing startup.

Qualifications

• Built and operated at least one AI agent or agentic workflow in production.
• Strong engineering judgment across models, orchestration, APIs, data and integrations, permissions, and observability.
• Experience working directly with customers or end users, translating needs into technical solutions.
• Ability to break complex workflows into deterministic steps and testable components.
• Familiarity with maintaining safe AI outputs through grounded context and evals.
• Comfort with shipping in zero-to-one environments and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate production AI agents and agentic workflows.
• Collaborate with design customers and map real-world workflows to live data.
• Create evaluation harnesses with datasets and test thresholds.
• Develop human-review layers, queues, and escalation paths.
• Run shadow-mode trials and drive discrepancies to zero before go-live.
• Turn customer work into reusable agents and playbooks.
• Handle production incidents end-to-end and feed learnings back into evals.
• Help set engineering bar as the team grows.
