Job summary

Workstream is building AI-native services for the hourly workforce. As the first engineer on Workstream's AI-Native Services team, you’ll shape architecture, set engineering bar, and help build the team from zero to one, owning the components, how they work, and how fast bespoke work becomes reusable.

This is a full-time, remote position with occasional in-office visits to support cross-functional collaboration and key initiatives.

Qualifications

• Have built and operated at least one AI agent or agentic workflow in production.
• Demonstrate strong engineering judgment across models, orchestration, APIs, data, and integrations.
• Have worked directly with customers or end users and can communicate clearly with non-technical people.
• Can break messy workflows into deterministic steps, agentic decisions, and exception paths.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate production AI agents and agentic workflows (orchestration, data connections, permissions).
• Collaborate with design customers and map real-world workflows against live data.
• Create evaluation harness with datasets, thresholds, regression suites, and monitoring.
• Implement human-review layer, queues, escalation paths, and auditable traces.
• Run shadow-mode comparisons and drive discrepancies to zero before go-live.
• Turn customer-specific work into reusable agents, integrations, and playbooks.
