Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – AI to join the CoCounsel International team and help build backend services that enable AI agents for global products. You will work with the Labs team to deliver scalable, production-ready features for legal professionals worldwide.

You will design, implement, and productionize agentic AI workflows, integrating with OpenAI and Anthropic, while mentoring engineers and collaborating across product, design, and labs teams.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production backend systems, APIs, and microservices used by real customers.
• Strong proficiency in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and AWS cloud services, with a deep understanding of distributed systems, architecture, and data modeling.
• Proven experience designing, building, and deploying production-grade agentic AI workflows, including multi-step reasoning, tool/API orchestration, and LLM-as-judge or eval-driven quality gates.

Responsibilities

• Build AI-powered backend systems and real-time AI interactions for scalable agent capabilities.
• Shape platform architecture by defining service boundaries and interfaces for scalability.
• Productionize AI capabilities by integrating with LLM providers and ensuring robust routing, guardrails, telemetry, and observability.
