Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a founding engineer to join the Legal group under the Office of the CTO. You will embed with Legal leadership, rapidly prototype AI-powered workflows, and translate complex legal processes into scalable engineering solutions.

You will own automation roadmaps and ensure governance, auditability, and human-in-the-loop controls across outputs. You will advocate for responsible generative AI use, partner with engineering teams, and drive measurable improvements in legal workflow

Qualifications

5+ years of software engineering experience in production systems.
Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications and prompt engineering.
Ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
Familiarity with legal/compliance systems concepts and privilege-sensitive data handling.
Open to learning; not required to be an attorney.

Responsibilities

Embed with Legal leadership to surface automation opportunities with the greatest business leverage.
Prototype using Coinbase's AI platform and translate results into engineering requirements.
Define the Legal tool build-vs-buy strategy and drive adoption across teams.
Ensure automated outputs are traceable, auditable, and compliant with privilege boundaries.
Lead outreach to Legal teams via brown-bags and walkthroughs to drive tool adoption.
