Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a founding engineer for the Legal AI automation program. You will embed with Legal leadership, prototype solutions on Coinbase's AI platform, and drive the automation roadmap end-to-end, translating complex legal workflows into engineering requirements and defensible tooling.

You will ensure auditability, privilege boundaries, and human-in-the-loop controls while driving adoption across Legal teams through hands-on sessions and iterative improvements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience shipping production systems in stakeholder-heavy environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, and human-in-the-loop design.
• Proven ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with contract lifecycle management, regulatory filing workflows, entity governance, and privilege-sensitive data handling.
• Does not need to be an attorney, but should be open to learning.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Legal leadership to surface automation opportunities with greatest business leverage.
• Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform as the baseline foundation.
• Own the Legal automation roadmap in partnership with leadership, translating workflows into engineering requirements.
• Define build-vs-buy strategy for Legal tooling, evaluating what to build or procure.
• Ensure automated outputs are traceable, auditable, and defensible with proper controls.
• Drive adoption through brown-bags and prototype walkthroughs to ensure tools are used.
