Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a founding engineer within Legal to surface high-value automation opportunities and prototype solutions on Coinbase's AI platform. You will embed with Legal leadership, translate complex workflows into engineering requirements, and help define the build-vs-buy strategy for legal tooling.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering in complex, stakeholder-driven environments.
• Hands-on with deploying LLM-based applications and prompt engineering.
• Able to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with contract lifecycle management, regulatory filing workflows, entity governance, and privilege-sensitive data handling.
• Does not need to be an attorney, but should be open to learning.
• Familiarity with multi-agent orchestration concepts including handoffs, escalation, and auditability.
• Experience in Forward Deployed Eng or embedded technical advisory roles, especially in legal-tech or RegTech.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Legal leadership to surface automation opportunities with the greatest business leverage.
• Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform as the default foundation.
• Own the Legal automation roadmap in partnership with the VP of Legal and CCO.
• Define the build-vs-buy strategy for Legal tooling and procure or retire as appropriate.
• Ensure every automated output is traceable, reviewable, and defensible with auditability and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Drive adoption through brown-bags, prototype walkthroughs, and feedback loops.
