Job summary

Coinbase's Legal organization seeks a founding engineer to embed with Legal, prototype AI-driven solutions, and drive automation on Coinbase's AI platform. You will partner with Legal leadership to surface high-value workflows and translate them into engineering requirements that move the business forward.

Focusing on contract reviews, regulatory filings, and entity governance, you will help design defensible, auditable outputs with human-in-the-loop controls and drive measurable improvements in

Qualifications

5+ years of software engineering experience in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments.
Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications with prompt engineering and human-in-the-loop design.
Ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
Familiarity with legal and compliance systems concepts: contract lifecycle management, regulatory filing workflows, entity governance, privilege-sensitive data handling.
Not required to be an attorney, but should be open to learning.
Familiarity with multi-agent orchestration concepts including handoffs, escalation, and auditability.
Experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or embedded technical advisory capacity in legal-tech or RegTech.
Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight for measurable improvements.

Responsibilities

Embed with Legal leadership to surface automation opportunities with greatest business leverage.
Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform as the foundation.
Own the Legal automation roadmap in partnership with the VP of Legal and CCO, translating workflows into engineering requirements.
Define the build-vs-buy strategy for Legal tooling and ensure governance of outputs.
Ensure automated outputs are traceable, reviewable, and defensible with auditability and human-in-the-loop controls.
Drive adoption through brown-bags, prototype walkthroughs, and feedback loops.
