CoolSys, based in Houston, Texas, is seeking a lead apprentice/journeyman to guide project crews across diverse HVAC and refrigeration projects. The role emphasizes training, prioritizing tasks, and maintaining schedules to ensure efficient completion.

You will report on progress, manage costs, and foster strong relations with customers and subcontractors while upholding safety standards and installation policies. DOE applies, with competitive benefits and ongoing education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or trade program completion.
• 5+ years in commercial building construction or related field.
• Knowledge of construction principles and efficient labor usage.
• Ability to organize tasks and give clear instructions.
• Safe work practices and policy compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead, train and mentor the project crew on sites.
• Report job status and performance to stakeholders.
• Control project costs and track schedules to ensure on-time completion.
• Develop relationships with peers, customers, GCs and subcontractors.
• Ensure PPE usage and safe behavior by all employees.
• Oversee installation policies, safety, time and attendance tracking.
• May oversee third-party resources.
• Direct and supervise apprentices and journeymen on projects.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for leading, training, and mentoring the project crew, prioritizing and delegating responsibilities, communicating with the tradespeople on the job site, and tracking project schedules to ensure projects are completed efficiently, accurately, and on time.

• Serves as Lead Technical resource on assigned projects.
• Reports on job status and performance.
• Controls job costs.
• Develops and maintains productive relationships with peers, customers, GCs, and subcontractors.
• Ensures the use of PPE and the application of safe behavior, including vehicle safety, by all employees.
• Ensures compliance with Installation policies and procedures, including project tracking, safety, time and attendance, etc.
• May oversee 3rd party resources.
• Directs and oversees the work of other Apprentices and journeymen assigned to specific projects.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or completion of trade program or technical school. College degree is a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in commercial building construction or other related industry/trade,
• Knowledge of construction principles and practices, including efficient use of labor hours.
• Ability to organize tasks.
• Ability to use good judgment in making work assignments.
• Ability to give clear instructions and guidance, as needed.
• Ability to maintain project labor hours within acceptable limits and request change orders as needed.
• Ability to ensure safe work practices and ensure compliance with Safety policies.
• Ability to understand and follow all company policies and procedures and all applicable State and Federal laws.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Track record of punctuality and dependability.
• Ability to use computer tools including E-Mail, Word, Project Planning Software (Projectmates), etc.
• Ability to manage time, delegate assignments and follow through to ensure good results.
