Job summary

Schenectady Community Action Program (SCAP) in Schenectady, NY, is hiring a full-time Food Service Worker to assist with meal preparation, line setup, and inventory, following NYS Health Code.

The role offers a 35-hour week, 45 weeks per year, hourly wage $16.37, and a benefits package including medical, dental, 403(b), paid time off, and more, supporting families in poverty relief.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred, minimum requirement is ability to read and write without assistance and comprehend program forms, training materials and procedures.
• Experience working in food service desirable.
• Must provide on a biennial basis a physical from a licensed health care provider, clearing you under New York State Day Care regulations.
• Background check is required prior to employment as required by NYS Day Care regulations and Federal Head Start Performance Standards.
• Knowledge and understanding of issues related to individuals and families in poverty; ability to support diverse backgrounds with strong communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Actively assists the Food Service Supervisor with planning menu cycle.
• Prepare/ set up food & utensils correctly, timely & according to the daily menus.
• Receives, checks and dates all incoming food products & paper goods daily and accurately.
• Prepares & stores food in accordance with NYS Health Code requirements.
• Maintains the kitchen/ storage area according to sanitary and safety standards and observes proper personal hygiene/ hand washing requirements at all times.
• Assists with obtaining the proper materials and equipment for the preparation of food and maintenance of the kitchen.
• Assists with monthly inventory and is accurate & timely.
• Responsible for staying up to date on procedures and best practices by attending all trainings as instructed & approved.
• Actively participating and demonstrating the ability to implement new techniques once trained.

• Possess a NYS valid Driver’s License and have a clean driving record.
