Job summary

Schenectady Community Action Program in Schenectady, NY is seeking an Early Learning Support Specialist to assist families, provide crisis intervention, and help parents identify goals within Head Start services. The role emphasizes data documentation and collaborating with agency staff during home visits and center contacts.

You will conduct home visits, participate in team meetings, advocate for families, and coordinate services while maintaining a compassionate, client-centered approach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or Associate’s Degree in Human Services and two years of related experience.
• Family Development Credential preferred.
• Computer literacy required and a willingness to upgrade skills.
• Knowledge of poverty-related issues and ability to serve diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Support Early Learning parents by helping identify and meet goals and provide crisis intervention.
• Collect data, document service delivery, and coordinate with agency services.
• Orient parents to Head Start and agency services via home visits, center/phone contacts, and recruitment.
• Perform two home visits per program year and coordinate visits as needed.
• Participate in case conferences and team meetings to discuss families and services.

Location: Bigelow - SCHENECTADY, NY 12304

Salary Range: $18.60 - $20.67 hourly

$18.60/hr with Associate’s Degree and $5k Sign on Bonus

$20.67/hr with Bachelor’s Degree and $5k Sign on Bonus

$5k Sign on Bonus: $2,500 at end of 4 month Introductory Period and $2,500 at the end of the first year

This position is 48 weeks/year

Responsibilities

• Support Early Learning parents as they identify and meet their goals and provide crisis intervention services.
• Collect data, document service delivery, and actively integrate services with other agency services, utilizing the principles of Family Development.
• Orient parents to Head Start and agency-wide services through home visits, center contacts, telephone contacts, and annual program recruitment.
• Remain up-to-date on current services offered through SCAP and conduct at least two home visits each program year, coordinating visits at the Center or an appropriate alternative location at the family’s convenience.
• Actively participate in scheduled case conferences and team meetings to discuss families, transportation, attendance, health, and social services concerns, maintaining an appropriate demeanor and resolving issues when possible.
• Advocate on behalf of families with community‑based agencies and institutions, incorporating SCAP’s guidelines and agency values.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or Associate’s Degree in Human Services and two (2) years of directly related experience.
• Family Development Credential preferred.
• Computer literacy required and a willingness to consistently upgrade skills.
• Knowledge of issues related to individuals and families in poverty, and the ability to build on strengths across diverse backgrounds to provide high-level services and lasting solutions.
• Physical ability and background check required.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work as part of an agency-wide team.
• Flexible work schedule to meet program and customer needs.
• Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
