Job summary

CGS Federal (Contact Government Services) is seeking a FOIA Analyst to join our Information Technology team supporting a federal agency. The role focuses on processing FOIA requests, drafting correspondence, and coordinating negotiations with requesters and agencies.

The ideal candidate has six years of FOIA experience, deep knowledge of FOIA exemptions, and experience redacting sensitive information. A government security clearance is preferred.

Qualifications

• Six (6) years of experience processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of FOIA rules and regulations; specifically applying exemptions b(4), b(5), and b(6).
• Experience redacting records with trade secrets and confidential commercial information.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to work independently.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to obtain a government security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Receive, review, and analyze new and backlogged FOIA requests.
• Intake incoming requests and prepare FOIA request folders.
• Enter request data in the FOIA tracking database.
• Draft response letters and other FOIA correspondence.
• Communicate and initiate negotiations with requesters, FOIA staff, sponsors, and contractors pertaining to records requested and associated information to be released.
• Serve as a liaison with requesters and other agencies regarding records that may involve multiple components.
• Coordinate searches for responsive documents and identify duplicate records.
• Review program records for responsiveness and offer release determinations.
• Ensure released materials do not contain information exempted under the applicable exemptions.
