Job summary

CGS Federal is seeking a FOIA Analyst to join our Information Technology team supporting the legal mission of a large federal agency. You will process FOIA requests, draft correspondence, and engage in negotiations with requesters and internal stakeholders.

Ideal candidates have at least six years of FOIA experience, strong knowledge of exemptions, and the ability to work independently while communicating clearly.

Qualifications

• Six (6) years of experience processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
• Knowledge of FOIA rules and regulations; specifically applying exemptions b(4), b(5), and b(6).
• Experience redacting records with trade secrets and confidential commercial information.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Receive, review, and analyze new and backlogged FOIA requests.
• Intake incoming requests and prepare FOIA request folders.
• Enter request data in the FOIA tracking database.
• Draft response letters and other FOIA correspondence.
• Communicate and initiate negotiations with requesters, FOIA staff, sponsors, and contractors.
• Coordinate searches for responsive documents and identify duplicate records.
• Review records for responsiveness and release determinations.
• Ensure released materials do not contain exempted information.
