Job summary

CGS Federal is seeking a FOIA Analyst to join our team supporting the legal mission of a large federal agency. The role centers on processing FOIA requests, drafting FOIA correspondence, and negotiating with requesters and contractors.

You will review, intake, and enter data in FOIA tracking systems, draft letters, and coordinate searches for responsive documents while ensuring proper exemptions are applied. A government security clearance is preferred.

Qualifications

• Six years of experience processing FOIA requests.
• Knowledge of FOIA rules and exemptions b(4), b(5), and b(6).
• Experience redacting records with trade secrets and confidential commercial information.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to work independently.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to obtain a government security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Receive, review, and analyze new and backlogged FOIA requests.
• Intake incoming requests and prepare FOIA folders.
• Enter request data in the FOIA tracking database.
• Draft response letters and other FOIA correspondence.
• Communicate and negotiate with requesters, FOIA staff, sponsors, and contractors.
• Serve as a liaison with requesters and other agencies as needed.
• Coordinate searches for responsive documents and identify duplicates.
• Review program records for responsiveness and release determinations.
• Ensure released materials do not contain exempt information.
