Job summary

Apex Space, Inc. is seeking an Operating Systems Engineer for our Flight Software team to design, develop, and own mission-critical software for our satellite buses.

You will tackle hard autonomous systems problems and collaborate with mission operations, GNC, and hardware teams to deliver software that reliably flies across all mission phases. Experience in the space industry not required; we value engineers who thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years writing code for operating systems, ideally Yocto or embedded Linux on spacecraft.
• Strong proficiency in Python, C++, or Rust.
• Bachelor's degree in CS, EE or equivalent, or equivalent professional experience.
• U.S. Person status required to access export controlled data.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and own mission-critical software for satellite systems throughout the full software lifecycle.
• Develop, configure, and maintain embedded Linux platforms and bootloader frameworks (Yocto, Buildroot, WolfBoot, U-Boot).
• Design, implement, and validate firmware update mechanisms, including bootloader integration and secure deployment.
• Design and implement security enhancements across complex software architectures.
