Job summary

Kalmbach Feeds is seeking a Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager to own safety and DOT regulatory oversight for about 40 drivers across Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Mississippi, and to evaluate contract carriers. The role reports to the Director of Transportation and guides field coaching and policy development.

The successful candidate will lead driver qualification programs, ELDT compliance, accident investigations, DataQs, and CSA performance while traveling up to 25% to fields and yards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in fleet safety and DOT compliance, including at least 2 years in a lead or management role.
• Thorough knowledge of the FMCSRs, including driver qualification, drug and alcohol testing (Part 382), hours of service, ELD, ELDT, and CSA.
• Experience leading accident investigations and managing claims.
• Experience with video telematics and driver coaching programs; Samsara preferred.
• Credible with professional drivers, with strong written documentation skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.
• CDL and/or Certified Director of Safety (CDS) designation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain driver qualification files in FMCSA compliance.
• Administer the DOT drug and alcohol testing program, including random selection, pre-employment, post-accident, and reasonable-suspicion testing, and Clearinghouse queries.
• Monitor hours-of-service and ELD compliance, and address violations with drivers and their supervisor.
• Own CSA performance: monitor BASIC scores, manage DataQs challenges, and lead corrective action.
• Lead accident and incident investigations, determine preventability, and manage claims with insurance partners.
• Manage the Samsara camera program across approximately 50 vehicles: review events, coach drivers, and report trends.
• Own the CDL training program and entry-level driver training (ELDT) compliance, and provide functional direction to the driver trainers.
• Make the safety qualification decision on contract carriers (operating authority, insurance, and safety rating) and maintain MCS-150 filings.
• Develop and maintain the driver handbook and transportation safety policies.
• Conduct field visits, ride-alongs, and driver coaching across Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Mississippi.
• Partner with HR on driver onboarding and policy, and advise Production on loader and yard safety.
• Report safety performance, including preventable accident rate, CSA standing, audit results, and claims cost.
