Job summary

Waste Management is launching a Fleet Operational Management Trainee (FOMT) program designed as a 12-month training path to prepare candidates for fleet manager roles. The role includes extensive field work, travel, and potential relocation across the U.S. and Canada, with start targeted for March 2027.

Participants will rotate between field and office settings, engage in hands-on maintenance experience, and learn financial and forecasting processes relevant to operations and safety leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent.
• High School Diploma or GED with at least 4 years of relevant work experience.

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete the FOMT curriculum.
• Participate in WM Learning Management System training.
• Develop the skills to become a Fleet Manager.
• Complete computer-based training modules.
• Attend mandatory group training sessions.
• Gain working knowledge of WM's Fleet and business applications.
• Understand collection and support equipment functionality and maintenance.
• Learn to manage site personnel including non-exempt operators.
• Develop understanding of financial, accounting, and forecasting processes.
• Support WM Safety Program and collaborate with safety teams.
• Complete paperwork using fleet maintenance software and track repairs.

Education

Bachelor's Degree (accredited)
