Job summary

WM (Waste Management) offers the Fleet Operational Management Trainee (FOMT) program, a 12‑month course to develop individuals into fleet managers. Trainees oversee a full fleet, manage maintenance, control costs, and pursue profitability across assigned areas, with fieldwork, travel, and on‑the‑job training in diverse conditions.

Candidates must relocate as needed, may travel 10–14 months during training, and start is planned for March 2027.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree (accredited) required.
High School Diploma or GED with 4 years of related work experience.
4 years of supervisory/leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Complete the FOMT curriculum.
Participate in WM Learning Management System trainings.
Develop the skills to become a Fleet Manager.
Complete computer-based training.
Attend mandatory group training sessions.
Develop working knowledge of WM's Fleet and business applications.
Understand collection and equipment functionality and maintenance.
Learn to manage site personnel including operators.
Understand financial, accounting, and forecasting processes and reporting to senior management.
Support WM Safety Program and safety-conscious culture.
Complete paperwork in fleet maintenance software and track parts usage.
Participate in worksite meetings, huddles and mentor programs.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
