Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a leading national logistics company specializing in last-mile delivery, is seeking a proactive and experienced Fleet Operations Manager to join their remote operations team. This role is essential for overseeing the efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness of the company's extensive vehicle fleet across various regions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of fleet management software, driver management, vehicle maintenance scheduling, and regulatory compliance. You will play a key role in optimizing fleet performance, minimizing downtime, and ensuring that delivery operations run smoothly and reliably, all managed from a remote setting, while coordinating with teams across South Africa, including those in East London .

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the company's fleet, ensuring optimal performance and utilization.
• Develop and implement strategies to reduce operating costs, including fuel, maintenance, and insurance expenses.
• Manage and monitor vehicle maintenance schedules, coordinating with service providers to minimize downtime.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
• Implement and manage fleet management software for tracking, reporting, and analysis.
• Supervise and provide guidance to remote fleet coordinators and drivers.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with vehicle suppliers, maintenance providers, and regulatory bodies.
• Analyze fleet data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
• Respond to and resolve operational issues, such as breakdowns, accidents, or delivery delays.
• Develop and implement driver training programs focused on safety, efficiency, and customer service.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in fleet management or transportation operations. Proven experience in managing large vehicle fleets and optimizing operational efficiency. In-depth knowledge of fleet management software, telematics, and GPS tracking systems. Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance, repair, and lifecycle management. Familiarity with South African transportation regulations and compliance requirements. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage a remote team and foster a collaborative work environment. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
