Job summary

City of Chesapeake Virginia seeks an Equipment/Training Specialist to manage vehicle and equipment inventory, maintenance, and purchase program, while supporting the division’s training in skills and CDL operations.

The role involves developing lesson plans, training staff, and ensuring compliance with safety and driving regulations. A CDL is required and applicants may face on-call duties and weather-related responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED/HSE and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education.
• Minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
• Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that complies with City Driving Standards; CDL is required and must be maintained; CPR must be obtained within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Create and manage an equipment inventory system using paper and City software.
• Coordinate maintenance and repair with PW staff and outside vendors.
• Provide equipment status reports to divisional leadership.
• Perform daily and weekly quality control for equipment upkeep.
• Assist in planning replacements and new equipment purchases.
• Provide training to staff on equipment operation and CDL licensure.
• Investigate accidents/incidents and coordinate follow-up actions; participate in Safety Review Board hearings.
• May participate in division’s daily work activities or lead crews; perform essential duties during weather or emergency incidents.
• May participate in the division’s on-call Duty Officer program.
