Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to manage an equipment repair shop and direct diagnosis, servicing, and repair of a wide range of vehicles and heavy equipment. You will schedule technicians, prioritize workload, and oversee safety and compliance with environmental regulations.

You will coordinate with vendors, manage parts inventory, and ensure timely repair work for emergency and daily operations within state guidelines.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.
• Experience operating a range of fleet equipment.
• Knowledge of shop practices and fleet regulations.
• Safety footwear required.
• Ability to research, evaluate data, and maintain records.
• Proficiency with computers and diagnostic equipment.

Responsibilities

• Manage State Inspection process per policies and regulations.
• Prepare work orders, records; monitor and update status of repairs.
• Outsource work when required to meet needs and maintain backlog.
• Schedule and direct shop activities to minimize downtime.
• Oversee safety procedures and hazardous material compliance.
• Coordinate inventory, procurement, and vendor relationships.
