Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a skilled shop manager to lead maintenance and repair for a broad range of government fleet equipment. You will supervise technicians, oversee safety, scheduling, and preventive maintenance to maintain service readiness.

Required CDL/DOT compliance, strong supervisory skills, and experience with diagnostic equipment and fleet procurement. Responsibilities include coordinating capacity, overseeing inspections, and ensuring regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and written skills.
• Must obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
• Experience supervising fleet repair operations and staff.
• Knowledge of general shop practices and vehicle maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Manage State Inspection process per Virginia policies and regulations.
• Prepare work orders, records and reports; monitor progress and posting.
• Direct repair technicians in diagnosis, service, and maintenance of equipment.
• Coordinate outsourcing to meet workload and parts availability.
• Ensure inventory and procurement processes; manage vendor relationships.
• Schedule preventive maintenance and coordinate with supervision on PM needs.
• Oversee safety procedures; maintain SDS files and regulatory compliance.
• Schedule and direct shop operations to minimize downtime and keep staff adequately staffed.
