Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking a seasoned Fleet Equipment Shop Supervisor to lead the repair shop, directing maintenance and repair of a diverse fleet for highway maintenance and construction. You will prioritize workloads, coordinate with MANCON, and manage an Integrated Supply Storeroom to support fleet needs.

The role requires CDL/DOT knowledge, strong supervisory skills, and experience with heavy equipment repair, safety regimes, and vendor coordination.

Qualifications

Must be able to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
Experience in equipment repair and fleet maintenance similar scale.
Knowledge of safety, environmental regulations, and shop practices.
Strong supervisory and training capabilities.

Responsibilities

Direct and manage the equipment repair shop and ordinate maintenance and repair of a wide range of vehicles and heavy equipment.
Schedule shop workloads, prioritize based on parts, manpower, and customer needs; coordinate with external vendors when needed.
Prepare and maintain work orders, records, and reports on repairs and maintenance.
Oversee preventive maintenance and safety procedures; ensure compliance with DOT/Environmental regulations.
Ensure inventory and purchasing processes, including contracts and logs, are properly documented and up to date.
