Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers seeks an equipment shop manager in Virginia to direct maintenance and repair for highway and emergency equipment. You will schedule technicians, prioritize workloads, and coordinate with vendors to keep the fleet ready for service and emergencies.

The role requires CDL/DOT compliance within 11 months, strong communication, and supervisory abilities to lead staff. ASE certifications and heavy equipment experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months and maintain thereafter.
  • Ability to operate various types of equipment.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to research, evaluate data, prepare and maintain records and reports.
  • Knowledge of general shop practices for vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of federal, state environmental and safety regulations related to fleet management.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and policies with ability to supervise staff.
  • Skill in using computers and advanced diagnostic equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage scheduling and work orders, track progress and costs.
  • Prepare equipment for emergencies and field operations.
  • Maintain shop inventory and manage vendor contracts.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance and coordinate PMs.
  • Ensure safety procedures and SDS compliance.
  • Direct shop personnel and ensure customer-friendly service.
