Responsibilities

  • Provide resources to address clients’ needs, including housing applications, negotiation with property owners and utility companies, fuel assistance, and shelter information.
  • Complete and maintain client files by reviewing applications and collecting documentation, maintaining a rolling caseload.
  • Accept referrals for financial assistance and housing counseling, and coordinate with internal and external partners.
  • Track interactions in data collection tools and Case Management System as required by funder and organization.
  • Manage rolling caseloads weekly with initiative to meet quotas; perform other duties as assigned.

OVERVIEW:

The Financial Assistance Administrator will work in the Financial Assistance Department, which is a homelessness prevention program funded by the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) processing applications for assistance with rent arrears, utility arrears, and/or moving costs. Telephone outreach and email outreach to applicants is required for processing cases and understanding the up-to-date regulations to make eligibility determinations for each case. This is a very fast-paced position requiring excellent follow-up, communication, and organizational skills. Technological skills to utilize the platforms for processing the cases is a key aspect for success in this role as well as the ability to determine an appropriate course of action. A dedication to assisting individuals and families in crisis both with processing the funding, and referrals to other resources, is required to meet the mission of Metro and our stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Provide resources to address clients’ needs, including but not limited to: housing applications, negotiation and mediation with property owners and utility companies, fuel assistance, and shelter information.
  • Complete andmaintainclient application files by reviewingsubmittedapplications forassistance; collectingadditionalrequired documentation from clients, property owners, and advocates; andmaintaininga steady rolling caseload of program participants.
  • Accept referrals for financial assistance and/or housing counseling from advocates from external partner organizations and internal Metro Housing|Boston staff, and keep those parties updated via e-mail or phone regarding work with their clients.
  • Track all interactions with clients and/or their files by entering outcomes from phone and in-person interactions intoappropriate datacollection tools Including the Case Management System and other software platforms asrequiredeither by our funder or that of the organization.
  • Manage rolling caseloads assigned weekly with great self-initiative and oversight to meet quotas,
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma with 2 years’ experience or Bachelor Degree preferred
  • Experience in application processing, program eligibility determinations, case management or intake and assessment preferred
  • Experience with crisis interventionregardingissues such as homelessness and affordable housing access preferred or similar relatable experience in serving populations toprovideassistance-- such as a medical, non-profit organization, government organization, or insurance background.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team to promote the goals of the program and agency;
  • Sensitivity to the needs of the homeless, low-income, and diverse populations;
  • Ability to work in a very busy, diverse team setting;
  • Excellent time management, organizational, communication, computer literacy and professional writing skills;
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as; SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, etc.

PREFERENCE GIVEN TO:

  • Candidates with multilingual skills (verbal and written). Indicate language fluency on application.

NOTE: Metro Housing supports a hybrid work environment. Staff is expected to work from the Boston office as needed to ensure maximum performance and results, and at the direction of the managers .
