Job summary

Metro Housing|Boston is seeking a Financial Assistance Coordinator to oversee the RAFT program and related financial resources. This hybrid role requires engaging with Boston's housing and homeless services community and representing Metro Housing’s priorities.

The coordinator will administer homelessness prevention funds, review referrals, coordinate with partners, and track program outcomes while maintaining client data and documentation.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma with 2 years’ related experience or Bachelor Degree preferred.
  • Experience in application processing, program eligibility determinations, case management or intake and assessment preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with clients, internal team members and external partners.
  • Strong time management skills and the capability to handle high-volume of administrative work and manage a very busy work environment with competing priorities.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and complete repetitive tasks quickly and accurately.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage various long-term projects concurrently.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse, low income population.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle emotionally stressful situations and manage conflict.
  • Empathetic to those needing reasonable accommodations as well as language assistance.
  • Ability to both work independently and with a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and written and oral communication skills; and
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 programs such as; Word, Excel, Sharepoint, Teams, and comfort learning new software and tracking systems.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with partners and vendors to obtain information and documentation required to process applications in a timely manner.
  • Obtain resources and services as requested to address client needs, including housing applications, translation assistance, negotiation and mediation, CORI resolution, credit programs and financial applications.
  • Track client referrals and program outcomes and maintain client data and documentation.
  • Provide additional training and peer shadowing; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is a non-exempt, full-time position.

OVERVIEW:

The Financial Assistance Coordinator will provide oversight of the Department of Housing and Community Development’s RAFT Program and any additional financial assistance resources as they become avaialble. In addition, s/he will be expected to be an active and engaged participant in Boston’s housing and homeless community, representing the interests and priorities of Metro Housing.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Administer homelessness prevention funds for families by developing systems for accepting and reviewing applications, collecting data and reporting to funders, and by directly assisting families who are interested in accessing these funds;
  • Review and process all referrals and applications submitted by external partners as well as Metro Housing internal staff, checking for completeness and accuracy;
  • Communicate with partners and vendors to obtain all relevant information and documentation required to process applications in a timely manner;
  • Obtain resources and services as requested and/or needed to address client needs, including but not limited to: housing applications, language translation assistance, negotiation and mediation with property owners and utility companies, CORI resolution, credit programs and assistance with financial applications;
  • Track client referrals and program outcomes and maintain client data and documentation;
  • Provide additional training and peer shadowing; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

PREFERENCE GIVEN TO:
  • Candidates with multilingual skills (verbal and written). We are seeking candidates that speak and write English and at least one of the following languages (for interpreting and translation): Vietnamese, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Cantonese, Mandarin, Toisanese, and Spanish.

This is a hybrid office work position. Employees who prefer to work in the office daily can do so. Must be able to come into the office 2- 3 times weekly.
