Job summary

Vercel in San Francisco is seeking a data engineer to own the reliability of the data for Finance. You will build pipelines, transformations, and data models turning billing and usage data into revenue, forecasting, and reporting infrastructure.

Collaborate with Finance to understand needs, set technical direction, and mentor engineers while ensuring data integrity and auditable lineage across the reporting stack.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong SQL and Python skills, with production-grade, testable code.
• Experience with dbt, dimensional modeling, and modern ELT/ETL workflows with orchestration tooling.
• Direct experience with Finance data, including usage-based billing, revenue recognition, or forecasting.
• Ability to translate business questions into technical data models and collaborate with non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills to present trade-offs to technical and business audiences.
• Proven track record of technical ownership and mentoring other engineers.
• Commitment to data accuracy, reconciliation, versioning, and lineage.

Responsibilities

• Own pipelines that bring billing, usage, and contract data into the warehouse reliably.
• Diagnose and resolve data quality and freshness issues at the source.
• Design and maintain dbt models turning raw data into clean datasets for revenue."
• Set testing and documentation standards to meet Finance accuracy.
• Build datasets and semantic models powering dashboards for planning and forecasting.
• Reduce one-off requests by designing for self-service.
• Collaborate with FP&A, Accounting, Revenue to align data needs with questions.
• Build pipeline and transformation code to a high engineering bar.
• Mentor engineers and help set technical standards.
