Job summary

Florida Department of Health in Spring Hill, FL is seeking an Accountant Specialist to review and process invoices and manage purchasing card transactions in the WORKS/FLAIR systems.

The role focuses on ensuring timely payments, maintaining voucher files, reconciling accounts, and supporting audits while protecting confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA. On-site work with state offices and interdepartmental collaboration is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work.
• Ability to reconcile balance sheet accounts and prepare financial reports.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Experience with state accounting systems (FLAIR/FLPALM) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and processes all DOH-Hernando invoices for payment.
• Maintains voucher files and tracks outstanding warrants.
• Reviews codes and approves all Health Department Purchasing Card charges in WORKS.
• Ensures documentation is complete for voucher files and WORKS submissions.
• Performs monthly p-card reconciliations and supports Tallahassee office requests.
• Coordinates with vendors and staff to resolve payment issues.
• Enters transactions into FLAIR or FLPALM and maintains documentation.
• Ensures HIPAA-compliant redaction of confidential information.
• Performs encumbrance and cash reconciliations; supports audits.
• Manages copier/printer inventory and reporting for invoicing.
• Submits travel reimbursements with required supporting documents.
• Mentors staff on travel reimbursement requirements.
• Acts as STMS Champion for travel; handles cell property custody.
• Assists with mail processing and meeting attendance.
