Job summary

TMC Transportation, the nation’s largest employee-owned open deck transportation company, is seeking a Dedicated Final Mile Fleet Manager in Des Moines, IA. The role focuses on coaching and leading drivers to meet delivery requirements, maximize revenue, and maintain safety records.

The position requires a four-year degree (preferably in Transportation and Logistics), strong computer proficiency, and excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree (preferably in Transportation and Logistics).
• Proficient in computer applications and keyboard.
• Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment and tolerate stress.
• Strong problem-solving and detail-oriented skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including good listening skills.
• Possess courteous, yet assertive telephone personality.

Responsibilities

• Accept orders, optimize routes, and plan delivery schedules maximizing productivity and efficiency.
• Dispatch loads to the drivers (issue load information, delivery requirements, and routing).
• Arrange for additional labor for deliveries that require it.
• Track drivers through their daily delivery schedule to ensure on-time delivery expectations are met.
• Communicate with drivers and customers quickly and effectively to resolve delivery issues.
• Notify customers of issues/changes that might impact expectations or load assignments.
• Promote safety throughout all areas of operations, including dispatching loads per drivers’ availability.
• Focus on driver retention by understanding driver requirements and keeping drivers informed.
• Identify, track, and resolve performance issues by conducting driver evaluations and meetings.
• Resolve driver conflicts regarding home time, pay, equipment, and load assignments.
• Maintain and submit driver payroll records weekly and ensure policy awareness.
• Maintain records pertaining to driver performance and productivity.
• Track equipment maintenance requirements and schedule upkeep.
• Involvement in driver training to ensure proper operation of equipment (e.g., Moffett forklifts).
• Other duties may be assigned.
