Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Technician in Dauphin County to support construction inspection and project documentation, ensuring highway work meets standards. You will observe construction phases, review materials, track activities, and assist field operations, with travel to PennDOT District 8-0 sites across Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, York, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and Perry Counties.

Work hours 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

One year of highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work.
One year of quality control of materials or construction industry experience including reading blueprints.
Equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

Observe routine phases of highway construction and check grades, elevations, and stakeout work.
Examine materials and testing results to confirm contract requirements.
Inspect work zone signs and devices to ensure proper placement and maintenance.
Maintain reports, sketches, diaries, and digital records related to construction activities.
Support plant operations, material testing, and enforcement of contract specifications.
Explain department requirements and testing procedures to contractors during project work.
