Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Technician (Construction) to support highway and bridge construction across the district. You will assist inspectors, review documentation, and help ensure plans and specifications are followed at multiple worksites.

The role includes field inspection, material testing, and project analysis, with opportunities for ad-hoc telework after probation.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work.
• One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics.
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Assist construction inspectors by reviewing work documentation, material usage, and project records to ensure accuracy.
• Verify costs, quantities, and calculations by performing audits of project documentation and work orders.
• Inspect road and bridge construction operations and permit work to confirm compliance with plans and specifications.
• Check placement and maintenance of work zone signs and devices according to approved plans and standards.
• Test materials incorporated into projects and collect required certifications and delivery forms.
• Review earthwork, quantity records, and calculations to ensure payments and documentation meet department requirements.
